Summary
 Mai Chau is the most beautiful valley in the northern mountainous area of Vietnam. This is the oasis of Thai people in Hoa Binh province. Coming here you can enjoy the unique opportunity of home-stay in traditional stilt-houses of Thai people. This way you can interact closely with the local family you stay with and their very friendly neighbors.
The whole valley is filled up with green carpets of rice plants which you can smell and touch. You can even join the people working on the fields to find out how to raise a rice plant. One day trekking along the valley also gives you experiences about the daily life activities of Thai people. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (L,D)
In the morning take a scenic drive to Mai Chau. Stop for lunch at Man Duc. Continue drive to Mai Chau. Visit Muong Village en route. Arrive in Maichau. Take an orientation walk around the village. After dinner, enjoy traditional music show performed by local people in the village. Overnight in the long house of Thai ethic group.
Day 2: Mai Chau (B,L,D)
Drive 20km to Xam Khoe village inside the valley. Then you can trek through terrace rice fields, Thai village, then back to village where you stay. Picnic lunch on the way. Overnight in the long house of Thai people.
Day 3: Mai Chau – Xa Linh(B,L,D)
In the morning drive to visit Muong and Mong villages in Xa Linh area. Picnic lunch on the way. Back to Mai Chau. You can have free time to wander around the villages or joining a local family to prepare the dinner. Overnight in the long house of Thai people.
Day 4: Mai Chau – Ninh Binh (B,L,D)
Depart from Mai Chau to Ninh Binh. Enjoy the scenic drive on less touristy road. Arrive at Ninh Binh. Lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, visit Dinh and Le King Temples. Then you can take a bike ride from Hoa Lu to Tam Coc. This is the best way to discover the so called Halong bay inland. Arrive in Tam Coc. Take 2 hours on the local sampan on the river between rice fields and mountains in Tam coc. Drive back to Ninh Binh. Check in the hotel. Overnight at Hoa Lu Hotel in Ninh Binh.
Day 5: Ninhbinh – Hanoi (B)
 Drive to Phat diem stone church, the masterpiece of Catholic people in Vietnam. Drive back to Hanoi.
