Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (L, D)
| A morning scenic drive to Mai Chau. Stop for lunch at Man Duc. Continue drive to Mai Chau through the area of Muong and Thai ethic group. Arrive in Mai Chau. Take the orientation walk around the village. After dinner, enjoy traditional music show performed by local people in the village. Overnight in the house with Thai ethic group. |

Day 2: Mai Chau – Son La: (B, L,D)

Continue drive from Mai Chau to Son La. Visit Muong village en route. Lunch at local restaurant in Moc Chau. Visit some villages of Thai people on the way to Son La. Overnight at Cong Doan Hotel

Day 3: Sonla- Dien Bien Phu (B, L)
| Visit Son La Prison before driving to Dien Bien Phu, the famous battle field that marked the astounding defeat of the French forces by Viet Minh in May 1954. Take a scenic drive over Pha Din pass before stopping for lunch at Tuan Giao. Upon arrival in Dien Bien Phu, visit Dien Bien Museum, A1 hill and the bunker of the French commanders in the past. Overnight at Muong Thanh Hotel. |

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu – Tam Duong (B,L,D)

Drive to Lai Chau through the areas of Kho Mu and Red Mong people. Visit villages of Red Mong en route which you can only find here. Lunch in Lai Chau. Drive over terrace rice fields, local village of Mang, Dzao, Lu and Mong ethic groups to Tam Duong. Overnight at Muong Thanh Hotel.

Day 5: Tam Duong (B,L)

Take a half day trekking in the hidden area of Mong, Giay and Lu people around Tam Duong. You will have chance to walk along terrace tea plantation, rice fields, visit some houses of hill tribe people. Back to Tam Duong for lunch. Afternoon is free on your own. Overnight at Muong Thanh Hotel.

Day 6: Tam Duong – Sapa (B,L)
|
|
Take the most scenic drive of the trip from Tam Duong to Sapa. Stop at Tram Ton pass for a spectacular view from the highest elevation of the trip. Lunch at a local restaurant in Sapa. Take an orientation walk around the town after that you will have free time on your own. Overnight at Victoria Sapa Hotel.

Day7: Sapa (B)

In the morning take 7 km trek from Lao Trai to Ta Van village of Giay and Black Mong people. In the afternoon you can either take a tour to Ta Phin village or have free time on your own. Overnight at Victoria Sapa Hotel.

Day 8: Sapa – Hanoi (B,L)
|
|
Drive to Nghia Lo. This is the most non-touristy road on the trip. You have a great chance to enjoy the green terrace all along the way. Overnight at Hoa Ban Guest House in Nghia Lo. |
